DUI Accident Statistics

It is illegal to operate a vehicle in California while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Driving while intoxicated (DUI) is a serious offense with severe consequences. According to the NHTSA, alcohol is thought to be a factor in about 40% of all traffic fatalities in the United States.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) data indicates that there were over 1,000 fatal DUI accidents in California in 2017. Numerous innocent people have experienced severe, even life-altering injuries and suffered from drunk driving.

Everyone is aware that a person cannot operate a vehicle while intoxicated. Although a DUI arrest typically entails steep fines, a criminal record, or even jail time, accidents resulting from drunk driving frequently result in the death or severe injury of the driver, passengers, or other motorists. To guard against these dangers, you might consider getting a policy that includes uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage.

If you are in an accident but do not have enough insurance to cover all the costs, this policy can assist you in recovering costs from the other driver.

Your right to file a civil lawsuit or make an insurance claim against the party responsible for the collision to recover damages you sustained due to the crash is separate from any criminal DUI case. Drivers may be punished for their actions by being charged criminally, but victims can pursue justice and financial compensation for their losses by filing a personal injury claim.
