Fatal Multi-Vehicle Collision Statistics

There’s no doubt that multiple-car accidents are a big road problem today. Each year in the United States alone, they cause more than 10,000 deaths and almost 500,000 injuries, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Even scarier is the fact that these numbers are only going up. In 2013, nearly 6,000 more people died in multi-car accidents than in 2012. Some of this rise can be explained by the overall increase in traffic, but it’s clear that there are other factors at play as well.

By learning about the most common reasons why multiple vehicles crash into each other, we can start making plans to stop them. For instance, better signs and lights at intersections can help cut down on the number of accidents. In the same way, teaching drivers about the dangers of speeding and driving while distracted can also help.

Multi-vehicle crashes are a big problem, but we can start to fix them by learning more about their statistics. With this information, we can develop specific ways to stop accidents and make the roads safer for everyone.
