Several people were injured following a multi-vehicle head-on crash in Merced on Monday evening, September 9, 2023.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened before 6 p.m. on Highway 99 between 16th Street and Franklin Road.
Initial investigations indicated that the crash involved a big rig that failed to notice the traffic slow down and collided head-on with multiple vehicles, causing harm to at least 6-7 people who sustained minor injuries.
As a result of the collision, the second lane of Highway 99 was shut down for cleanup. Details about the cause of the collision and the victims’ identities are currently unavailable as the investigation continues.
