One driver died after a multiple-vehicle collision in Hanford on October 17, 2022.
The accident occurred on Monday morning, north of Flint Avenue on Highway 43. According to local authorities, four vehicles were involved in the crash upon arrival.
According to the CHP, Uliezer Francisco De Jesus and a 49-year-old man from Dublin were traveling southbound on Highway 43. Oscar Escalera and Jose Corona were traveling north.
The first car started to veer into the opposing lane, causing the other vehicles in the area to swerve. Due to this, two of those cars collided head-on while traveling in opposite directions.
The driver, 49, was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Drugs and alcohol did not influence the fatal collision.
Francisco De Jesus, one of the drivers, was pulled over and taken to the Kings County Jail because he did not possess a valid driver’s license.
Fatal Car Vehicle Collision Statistics
There is no denying that multi-car accidents constitute a significant issue on the road today. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, they result in more than 10,000 fatalities and nearly 500,000 injuries in the United States each year (NHTSA).
The fact that these numbers are only rising makes the situation even scarier. Nearly 6,000 more people perished in multi-car collisions in 2013 than in 2012.
Although the overall increase in traffic can partially account for this rise, it is evident that there are additional factors at work.
By becoming aware of the most frequent causes of such crashes, we can begin developing strategies to prevent collisions between multiple vehicles.
For instance, improved intersection signage and lighting can reduce the number of collisions. Similarly, educating drivers about speeding and distracted driving risks can be beneficial.
Multivehicle crashes are a significant issue, but we can begin to address them by understanding their statistics. With this knowledge, we can devise targeted strategies to halt collisions and make the roads safer.
