Pedestrian Accident Statistics

Unlike motorists, pedestrians can’t hide from oncoming traffic in the event of an accident. Seat belts and airbags help keep car passengers safe.

On the other hand, pedestrians have no protection against a passing car and are highly vulnerable to injury due to such a collision. U.S. pedestrian accidents have been on the rise recently.

The Governors Highway Safety Administration reported that 6,227 pedestrians lost their lives on American roadways last year.

There has been a rise in the number of pedestrians killed or critically injured in San Diego in recent years. Pedestrian accidents have skyrocketed as more and more people choose to walk rather than drive or take public transportation to get where they need to go.

A pedestrian accident has a higher chance of severe injury or death than any other type. Over one hundred pedestrians were killed in San Diego County in 2018, making it the deadliest year for pedestrians in nine years. Fifteen of these deaths occurred as a result of hit-and-run accidents.
