[10-22-2025] Santa Clara County, CA โ€“ Pedestrian Killed After Suspected DUI Driver Strikes Man on Highway 87 to I-280 Connector in San Jose

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a suspected DUI driver near downtown San Jose on Wednesday evening, October 22, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported around 7:20 p.m. on the connector from northbound Highway 87 to northbound Interstate 280.

Investigators said a 52-year-old San Jose man driving a 2021 Hyundai lost control of the vehicle and hit a man who was standing on the right shoulder.

The victim, believed to be in his early to mid-40s, died at the scene. His name has not been released pending identification and notification of next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coronerโ€™s Office.

The Hyundai driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. CHP Officer Ross Lee said it remains unclear why the victim was walking along the freeway connector.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
