According to the Santa Maria Police Department, a vehicle driver struck a pedestrian and left him in critical condition on Broadway in Santa Maria Sunday night, October 23, 2022.
The pedestrian was struck by a vehicle just after 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of North Broadway and El Camino Street.
Authorities arrived to find a man who had been severely beaten.
According to the Traffic Bureau’s investigation findings, the pedestrian had been on the Broadway sidewalk before he crossed the street in an unmarked area near El Camino Street and was struck by a northbound vehicle.
The police said he is in critical condition at a hospital and has not been identified.
The driver stayed at the scene, was helpful, and gave a statement to the police.
