[10-27-2022] Deadly Two-Vehicle Crash Kills A 53-Year-Old Man in La MesaA 53-year-old pickup driver died after a two-vehicle crash in La Mesa early on Thursday, October 27, 2022.

The collision was reported shortly before 2:30 on I-8 east of Grossmont Boulevard.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow, a 30-year-old El Cajon resident driving a Mercedes collided with the back of a 1979 Toyota pickup being driven by a 53-year-old resident of the same city.

Following the initial collision, both cars took a detour. The Toyota flipped over, throwing the driver out.

Responding emergency personnel drove both drivers to the hospital. Both the Mercedes and Toyota drivers were seriously injured, with the Toyota driver suffering from life-threatening wounds.

According to Garrow, he stated that the alleged DUI driver is still in the hospital for proper medication. He added that they booked the DUI driver into jail upon his release.

According to the CHP, anyone who saw the collision is urged to call the CHP’s EL Cajon office at (619) 401-2000.
