Fatal Train Accident Statistics

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, a train strikes a person or their vehicle every two hours. More than a thousand people lose their lives in train accidents yearly. There were 600 fatalities and about 2,300 injuries as a result of this.

In comparison to automobiles, train accidents kill more pedestrians, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. Fifty percent of all fatal train accidents are caused by unsafe crossings, outdated or missing safety features, and the absence of warning systems for motorists.

Over 7,200 people have died in train accidents in the United States since 1997. The leading cause of death along America’s railroads in recent years has surpassed all others: trains striking pedestrians.

Trains are the most effective mode of transportation. The conductors’ expertise and the frequency of required repairs are just two examples of the many variables that affect the safety of passengers and employees. Due to their potential for negligence or inappropriate shortcut use, these people pose a threat.

The majority of train accidents are brought on by derailments, worn-out tracks, disregard for safety rules, lax security, and other types of negligence.
