Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash Statistics

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reports that 680,000 people in the United States are injured or killed in hit-and-run accidents each year. Recent studies show an increase in fatalities resulting from hit-and-runs. In 2020, these mishaps were a factor in 24% of all pedestrian fatalities.

Hit-and-run accidents happen when one vehicle collides with another and then speeds away from the scene without stopping to assist the injured party.

In addition to the pain and social and financial costs associated with injury crashes, hit-and-run injuries can also have negative consequences because victims are frequently left unattended or delayed in receiving medical care.

The most common cause of pedestrian injuries is distracted driving. The driver might converse on the phone, adjust the radio, or interact with passengers while driving. One is more likely to miss someone crossing the street when they are multitasking.

The best way to prevent injuries in these circumstances is to dress brightly. You must be cautious whenever you cross the street and only when the oncoming driver can see you.
