Fatal Train Accident Statistics
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, pedestrians die in train accidents more often than in collisions with cars. Faulty warning systems, outdated or absent safety features, and dangerous crossings cause most fatal train accidents.
About every two hours, a train strikes a person or a vehicle. Each year, more than a thousand people are killed in train accidents. There were over 2,300 injuries and 600 fatalities as a result.
Trains are the most effective form of transportation. The skills of the conductors and how frequently repairs are made are elements that affect employee and passenger safety. Passengers are at risk due to their negligence or poor shortcuts.
Over 7,200 people have died in US train accidents since 1997. Trains colliding with pedestrians on American railroads are now the leading cause of fatalities, outpacing all other factors.
Derailments, worn-out tracks, disregard for safety regulations, lax security, and other forms of negligence are typically to blame for train accidents.
