[12-02-2022] Suspected DUI Crash on Highway 99 Fatally Struck Female DriverA female driver was killed after an alcohol-impaired driver struck another vehicle on Highway 99 Friday night, December 2, 2022.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the fatal crash occurred around 11:00 p.m. just north of Clovis Avenue.

Authorities were notified of a crash where a Mitsubishi Galant was blacked out, blocking the middle lane of northbound traffic.

The 25-year-old Toyota driver, Jose G., crashed into the Mitsubishi from behind, sending both cars off the road and landing on the right shoulder.

As a result, the Mitsubishi caught fire, and its driver, a 28-year-old woman, died due to her injuries after she was unable to escape in time.

Officers believe the Mitsubishi was involved in a previous collision, which left it immobilized on the road.

Police arrested the 25-year-old after suspecting he was intoxicated while driving.

Following his release from the hospital, he will face a charge of Vehicular Manslaughter while intoxicated.

The victim’s name has been withheld pending notification of her next of kin.
