Bicycle Accident Statistics

No matter how many laws are implemented to protect cyclists in the United States, accidents will still occur. The number of fatalities involving bikers in the United States was close to 800 last year. More than its fair share of these deaths occurred in the Golden State of California.

There were 50,000 fewer recorded bicycle accidents in the US in 2018 than in 2017. Even though there was a 12 percent decrease in total bicycle accidents in 2001, the national death toll actually increased.

At 4.4 per 100,000 people, California has the highest rate of fatalities involving bicycling in the United States. 145 cyclists were killed and 11,116 were wounded in California last year, according to the National Bicycle Safety Foundation.

There are several risks involved with cycling regularly. Motorists routinely disobey traffic signs and move dangerously close to bicyclists, putting everyone in danger. Therefore, there is a more significant potential for harm and perhaps death.
