A male bicyclist is in critical condition after being struck by a minivan near a Santa Rosa intersection on Wednesday morning, December 4, 2024.
According to police, the driver of a Chevrolet Astro minivan called 911 at 7:35 a.m. to report the collision on Guerneville Road near Herbert Street, just west of Coddingtown Mall.
The driver was traveling west when he struck the bicyclist, who was wearing a helmet. Investigators believe the driver attempted to stop before the collision. The bicyclist was reportedly heading east into oncoming traffic when the crash occurred.
Santa Rosa police and fire personnel responded to the scene and transported the bicyclist to a local trauma center for life-threatening injuries.
The driver and passengers of the minivan were uninjured and cooperative with police. Authorities do not suspect the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and speed does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
The crash caused moderate damage to both the bike and the minivan, which had a cracked windshield.
