Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash Statistics
Annually, 680,000 individuals are hurt or killed in hit-and-run accidents, as reported by AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. In recent years, there have been more fatalities arising from hit-and-runs. In 2020, these accidents were responsible for 24% of all pedestrian deaths.
A hit-and-run happens when one vehicle collides with another and fails to stop to assist the injured party.
Aside from the pain and financial and emotional expenses, hit-and-run injuries can cause injury to victims due to negligence or a delay in seeking treatment.
The majority of pedestrian injuries are the consequence of distracted driving. Drivers may use their phones, change the radio, or converse with their passengers while driving. It is easier to miss someone crossing the street when multitasking.
Wearing bright clothing in some conditions can help lower the chance of an accident. Crossing the street should be done with caution to ensure that the approaching vehicle notices you.
