According to the Corona Police Department, a 42-year-old motorist was killed, and two other passengers were severely injured after crashing near a Corona intersection Monday, October 10, 2022.
According to CPD, the collision occurred at about 6:15 p.m. in the 100 block of North Smith Avenue, near Pleasant View Avenue.
David K., 42, of Riverside, was named by authorities as the victim of the fatal crash injuries he sustained.
Knoefler’s two passengers, a woman, aged 36, and a man, aged 51, who were both seriously injured but are expected to recover, were also in the car.
Officer Jason Waldon of the Corona Police Department stated that Knoefler was “traveling at a high rate of speed” in a 2009 BMW 328i when he “lost control and collided with a water valve” used for irrigation.
There were no additional vehicles in the incident. The sergeant said that Knoefler was taken to Riverside Community Hospital but died.
According to Waldon, “it is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were involved.” The other two victims, he said, were transported to a nearby trauma center.

Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics
The number of people killed in California each year in single-vehicle accidents is shocking.
According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, sixty-two percent of fatal car accidents in California involve only one vehicle. If you plan on driving in California, you should be prepared for the risks you may face.
A wide variety of factors can cause single-vehicle accidents. When drivers are going too fast or making sharp turns on a slippery road, the vehicle is more likely to roll over and cause a runaway. Trucks carrying branches and other garbage littered an already filthy highway.
Comprehensive insurance is more likely to cover the costs of repairs in the event of a single-car accident in which neither driver was at fault.
Riverside County Car Accident Lawyers
Careless driving is always wrong, but mainly when it results in another person’s death, and almost no one who has been hurt in a car crash can fully recover. When a loved one dies in a car crash due to another party’s carelessness, those left behind may file a “wrongful death” claim to seek financial restitution for their losses.
Testifying in depositions and trials forces victims to face the pain of remembering their past losses and sorrows in front of a large group of people. Adverse effects on mental health may result from unresolved legal matters.
The at-fault motorist in a car accident must be identified and punished promptly. When carelessness causes too many casualties, someone must bear the burden of responsibility. Although pursuing a claim for wrongful death in court can be arduous, it is often worth it for the surviving loved ones left behind. Because of this ruling, California drivers’ habits will change significantly.
