According to the California Highway Patrol, a woman was killed while walking on Highway 99 near Highway 58 on Sunday morning, August 07, 2022.
Deputies from the California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a pedestrian standing in the second lane from the fast lane around 3:40 a.m. When officers arrived, they discovered that the pedestrian had been killed by a car after moving into the slow lane.
According to authorities, the car, a Honda driven by J. Montoya of Tehachapi, California, was traveling north on Highway 99 south of Planz Road in the slow lane at about 70 miles per hour. The pedestrian had moved directly into Montoya’s path by that point for unknown reasons.
According to officials, Montoya attempted to avoid the pedestrian by turning left, but the right side of his car struck her. She landed on her right shoulder and came to a stop.
She was taken to Kern Medical to treat major injuries but died there. Her identity has yet to be revealed.
Officials believe alcohol or drugs played a role.
The investigation is still going on.
