Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Pedestrian accidents are a common occurrence in the United States. There were 4,735 pedestrian fatalities in 2013. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, one pedestrian is killed every two hours, and another is injured every eight minutes.
Pedestrians are more likely to be killed or injured in traffic accidents than any other road user. Most of these fatalities occur in urban areas, where people are more likely to walk to their destinations.
There are many reasons why pedestrian accidents happen. Some pedestrians may not be paying attention to their surroundings and may not be aware of oncoming traffic. Others may be crossing the street in an area where they are not supposed to, or they may be crossing when the signal says not to. Cars may also be at fault for speeding up or not seeing pedestrians in time.
Whatever the reason for the accident, both drivers and pedestrians must take steps to stay safe. Drivers should always watch out for pedestrians, especially when turning or coming to a stop. Pedestrians should pay attention to traffic and cross streets only when it is safe to do so.
Kern County Pedestrian Accident Lawyers
Pedestrian accidents can be very serious, often resulting in severe injuries. If you have been injured in a pedestrian accident, you may be able to file a claim against the driver who hit you. There are a few things to keep in mind when filing a pedestrian accident claim:
First, make sure you seek medical attention immediately. Even if you don’t think you’re injured, it’s important to get checked out by a doctor. Many injuries from pedestrian accidents aren’t immediately apparent, and can take time to develop.
Second, gather evidence at the scene of the accident. Take pictures of the scene and the vehicles involved. Get the contact information of any witnesses. This evidence will help support your claim later on.
