A chemical burn might not seem like a typical injury from a car accident. Still, cars have some caustic fluids that could leak after a crash and hurt the people inside. Airbags that go off are a major cause of chemical burns after car accidents. When an airbag goes off, it sends out an aerosol of sodium hydroxide that can burn the skin.
If you are in a car accident and touch something you don’t know, try to get it off your skin as soon as possible. Obviously, this could be hard right after an accident, especially if you’ve been hurt badly.
Also, some irritants or corrosives might be thick and hard to eliminate. The substance should be taken away as soon as possible. First responders should be able to treat chemical burns with the right tools. If you let something acidic sit on your skin it can burn you more.
