[10-14-2022] A 16-Year-Old Teenager Died After an ATV Crashed in a Bus in HelendaleA 16-year-old teen, identified as Benjamin C., from Oro Grande, died when his ATV collided with a school bus in Helendale on Friday, October 14, 2022.

The mishap transpired around 12:23 p.m. in the Hendale neighborhood, also known as Silver Lakes, off National Trails Highway, Helendale Road, and Blue Water Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the young person was traveling eastbound on Bluewater Road in a 2005 Suzuki Quadsport off-road vehicle at a speed of about 15-20 mph.

The 2019 Thomas Type 1 school bus, which was carrying 37 students, was traveling south on Helendale Road when the quad failed to stop.

According to authorities, the bus driver attempted to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful. Benjamin suffered fatal wounds and was declared dead on the spot.

The 59-year-old male bus driver was examined by medical personnel for possible minor wounds, but they did not take him to the hospital, and none of the passengers were hurt.

The California Highway Patrol Victorville Station is looking into the collision.
