According to California Highway Patrol, a 30-year-old man suffered major injuries after a vehicle rear-ended a big rig on Highway 99 just south of Bakersfield, Friday, October 28, 2022.
As per CHP-Bakersfield, the crash occurred at 11:43 a.m. on Highway 99, north of Highway 166.
When the police arrived, they did an investigation and found that a man named Justin C., 30, of Norwalk, California, was driving a Kia Forte north on Highway 166 at a high rate of speed, coming close to a Kenworth semi-trailer in the No. 3 lane, driven by Harenber S., 46, of Sacramento, who was going 55 to 60 miles per hour.
As Costa got closer to the tractor, he didn’t slow down in time and hit the trailer from behind. According to the CHP, this caused the Kia to get partly under the trailer.
CHP said that because of the hard crash, Sahota was stuck inside the car and had to be taken out by Kern County firefighters.
Costa had major injuries, so an air ambulance took him to Kern Medical.
All of the northbound lanes of Highway 99 were closed for about 20 minutes while the air ambulance landed and Costa was put into it.
No one knows if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The CHP is looking into it.
