Fatal Motorcycle Crash Statistics

Motorcycles are involved in 11% of all traffic accidents in the US, according to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In 2018, there were 82,000 motorcycle injuries and 4,985 motorcycle fatalities.

This statistic is not shocking because riders are 16 times more likely than passengers in enclosed vehicles to be injured or killed in a car accident.

Helmet use has been shown to reduce the risk of severe head trauma. According to estimates, using a helmet can cut the risk of dying on a motorcycle by 37%. However, the rest of their bodies could still be in danger.

Speeding, reckless driving, driving while intoxicated or high, driving inclement weather, driving the wrong way, and breaking traffic laws contribute to motorcycle accidents.
