Pedestrian Crash Statistics
When struck by a car, pedestrians almost always suffer life-threatening injuries. People in the crowd almost always get killed when a car crashes into a large group of pedestrians.
In the United States, the number and severity of pedestrian injuries and deaths have been rising in recent years. The recent increase in pedestrian fatalities has become a significant problem.
Between 2007 and 2016, there was a 14% drop in traffic fatalities. Despite these improvements, the number of pedestrian fatalities rose by 27% during this time, according to research by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA).
In 2016, pedestrians were responsible for an estimated 5,977 deaths in the United States. It was predicted that by the end of 2016, 88 people would lose their lives each and every minute. At least 137,000 people in 2017 sustained injuries while walking that required them to seek medical attention at an emergency room.
For some reason, California leads the nation in the number of pedestrians hurt or killed. Across California in 2012, 893 pedestrians lost their lives, and over 14,000 were injured.
Pedestrian deaths and injuries are frequently caused by drivers who either don’t see them or brake suddenly. As soon as you receive a summons to appear in court, you must retain the services of an experienced attorney.
