Fatal Train Crash Statistics

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, train accidents kill more pedestrians than automobile accidents. Unsafe crossings, outdated or missing safety features, and a lack of warning systems for motorists are to blame for 50% of all fatal train accidents.

Approximately every two hours, a train strikes someone or another vehicle. Every year, train accidents claim the lives of more than a thousand people. This resulted in about 2,300 injuries and 600 fatalities.

Among all modes of transportation, trains are the most efficient. The skill of the conductors and the frequency of needed repairs are just two examples of the many factors that influence employee and passenger safety. They pose a threat because they might be careless or take improper shortcuts.

Since 1997, there have been over 7,200 fatal train accidents in the US. Trains striking pedestrians have recently surpassed all other causes of death as the main cause of fatalities along American railroads.

Derailments, worn-out tracks, disregard for safety regulations, lax security, and other forms of negligence are the main causes of train accidents.
