Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash Statistics

In recent years, there have been more accidents involving and killing pedestrians. Each year, the number of pedestrian fatalities has been alarmingly high.

According to a survey, there has been an increase in fatal hit-and-run accidents. Recent studies have revealed that when compared to other states, California has the highest risk of pedestrian fatalities and serious injuries.

In 2012, California had over 14,000 pedestrian injuries and 893 deaths. The number of pedestrian fatalities from hit-and-runs increased to 24% in 2020.

A hit-and-run collision occurs when one vehicle collides with another and then speeds away from the scene without stopping to help the injured party (this includes drivers fleeing the scene on foot). Injuries caused by hit-and-run accidents can worsen outcomes because victims are frequently delayed or do not receive medical attention, in addition to the suffering and social and economic costs associated with injury crashes.

It is advised that pedestrians always walk on the sidewalks, refrain from drinking or using drugs while walking, and cross parking lots and driveways carefully. They will therefore be less likely to get hurt in these collisions.
