Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics

Deaths and injuries to pedestrians have been on the rise in recent years, and the trend appears to be spreading across the United States.

The overall number of traffic fatalities decreased by 14% between 2007 and 2016, according to data from the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA). Still, the number of pedestrian fatalities increased by 27% over the same time period.

Five thousand nine hundred seven pedestrians lost their lives in the United States in 2016. At the year’s end, it was projected that 88 people per minute were losing their lives. Approximately 137,000 persons required medical attention in 2017 due to a pedestrian injury.

California had 893 pedestrian deaths and almost 14,000 injuries in 2012. Some studies have found that the state has the most significant rate of pedestrian fatalities and severe injuries because of this.

Pedestrians almost often suffer terrible outcomes when automobiles fail to yield to them or stop abruptly. Consult a trial attorney if going to court is something you’re considering.
