According to authorities, the crash transpired around 4:30 p.m. north of the connector ramp southbound of State Highway 1.

The California Highway Patrol reported that two people were hurt in a rollover accident on state Highway 17 in Santa Cruz on Thursday afternoon, one of whom needed to be flown to a hospital.

Due to some unknown reason, a 2013 Mazda driven by a 20-year-old Watsonville man drove up a dirt embankment, hit a guardrail, and overturned.

The Mazda passenger, an 18-year-old Aptos woman, suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to Natividad Medical Center.

Meanwhile, the Mazda driver sustained minor injuries and wasn’t taken to the hospital.

The cause of the collision is still being investigated.
