DUI Accident Statistics
When a driver is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, they pose a serious threat to everyone else on the road. That’s why every state has strict regulations against DUI (driving under the influence).
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drunk driving is directly responsible for the deaths of approximately 10,000 individuals every year.
Around 2,000 fatalities and 30,000 injuries are associated with drunk driving incidents each year in the Golden State. Nearly 2,000 people have lost their lives in the state due to hit-and-run accidents since 2006. Meanwhile, a hit-and-run accident occurs somewhere in the country at least once per day.
An offending motorist flees the scene of one pedestrian accident in five. Most of the time, drunkenness, licensing issues, or the fear of being arrested are the root causes of these drivers’ flights.
In addition to difficulties with eyesight and decision-making, and response time, people with disabilities often experience difficulties behind the wheel. Drunk drivers pose a particularly high risk to other motorists and passengers on the most hazardous roads in California.
