Truck Accident Statistics

In 2015, according to the United States Department of Transportation, there were nearly 4,000 accidents involving tractor-trailers across the country.

Between 2009 and 2015, fatal collisions involving semi-trucks soared to 22%. In 2015, one out of every ten traffic deaths involved a tractor-trailer.

Massive commercial trucks, also known as “big rigs,” are typical on U.S. highways. This type of truck is also known as a big rig, 18-wheeler, tractor-trailer, and semi-trailer.

Large trucks are involved in some of the deadliest collisions on American highways and roads. Because tractor-trailers are more prominent than passenger vehicles, truck accidents often result in more deaths than other traffic collisions.

Multiple factors must be considered when investigating 18-wheeler collisions. Large truck accidents are typically caused by poor truck control, tire blowouts, incapacitating or non-capacitating vehicle failures, excessive speed, lane drifting, improper truck maneuvers, and tired drivers.
