Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash Statistics
AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety estimates that 680,000 have been annually injured or killed in hit-and-run collisions in the United States. According to recent statistics, the number of fatalities caused by hit-and-runs is rising. These mishaps accounted for 24% of deaths among pedestrians in 2020.
A hit-and-run occurs when two vehicles collide, and the driver leaves without stopping to help the injured person.
In addition to the agony and financial costs associated with car accidents, hit-and-runs have negative consequences due to delayed medical treatment for victims.
Pedestrians are most likely to be injured by distracted drivers. A driver may talk on the phone, adjust the radio, or engage with passengers while driving—the risk of missing someone crossing the street increases when multitasking.
In these conditions, dressing in bright colors is the best approach to avoid injury. When crossing the street, you must be cautious and only do so when the incoming driver can see you.
