A man died in a pickup truck crash while driving the wrong way on the San Gabriel River 605 Freeway in Cerritos on Saturday evening, August 21, 2022.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident occurred at around 6:29 p.m. on the southbound 605 Freeway just north of Alondra Boulevard.
According to witnesses, the car was northbound on the southbound side of the freeway when it collided head-on with the truck.
An officer on the scene reported that the driver “went through the windshield.”
It was unclear whether anyone in the truck had been injured.
The CHP released a SigAlert at 6:42 p.m., closing southbound lanes 4 and 5 and the Alondra off-ramp. The SigAlert was canceled at 9:28 p.m.
