According to the California Highway Patrol South Sacramento division, one highway worker was dead and another in critical condition when two vehicles collided with them on Interstate 5 in Sacramento on Wednesday, September 7, 2022.
The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. along northbound I-5 close to Sutterville Road.
According to the CHP, a minivan swerved into the two male workers as they were putting up cones along northbound I-5.
According to CHP, the minivan driver and passenger cooperated with the police.
Although it is not thought that the crash was caused by alcohol or drugs, it is unknown if the driver was speeding at the time.
The California Department of Transportation, or Caltrans, reported that three lanes are closed and won’t reopen until after midnight.
According to CHP, Caltrans had a contract with Construction Sign Incorporated to employ these highway workers.
It is unclear exactly what caused the crash.
