According to Prange, the initial reports indicated that no one was in the vehicle at the time of the collision.
It was reported that a few passengers on board the train had minor injuries, but it was not immediately clear how many passengers had been injured.
The investigators are still trying to determine what caused the collision.
Train Accident Statistics
Car accidents are responsible for a disproportionately high number of injuries and fatalities in urban areas. This mode of transportation is not always the most time- or money-saving option for getting around.
In many parts of the country, trains collide with one another regularly. The United States Department of Transportation estimates that there are approximately 5,800 accidents involving train cars occurring each year in the country.
The majority of them are located at intersections with railroads. More than 600 people lost their lives as a direct result of these events, and over 2,300 others were injured.
According to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), there are insufficient warning signs at approximately eighty percent of the railroad crossings in the United States.
Most train accidents occur either because a train derails, the tracks are not maintained properly, or there are not enough safety regulations in place.
