Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Over 4,000 pedestrians are killed in car accidents yearly in the United States. According to Patch, there were 470 pedestrian fatalities in California in 2021, up from 460 in 2019 and 463 in 2020.
People can hurt themselves while walking for a variety of reasons. One of the most frequent causes is driver distraction, which includes using a cell phone while driving, driving while intoxicated, and failing to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk.
Another frequent factor in collisions involving pedestrians is the excessive speed of drivers. If a driver sees a pedestrian crossing the street while going too fast, they may not be able to stop in time. This may cause terrible harm to pedestrians.
Accidents involving pedestrians can result from poor road design. If there are no crosswalks or sidewalks, pedestrians might have to cross the street. This could be hazardous if cars are passing by.
You must head to the hospital immediately if you are hurt while a pedestrian is in a car accident. You might also want to discuss your situation with a lawyer.
