[09-10-2022] Two People Injured, One Dead in DUI Single-Vehicle Crash in Santa ClaraAccording to authorities, a 41-year-old female passenger was killed, and two men were critically injured in a suspected DUI accident in Santa Clara early Saturday morning, September 10, 2022.

The collision happened at 1:54 a.m. at the Lawrence Expressway and Poinciana Drive junction.

The female passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene.

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old male passenger and a 36-year-old male driver were both hospitalized with “severe injuries.”

According to a Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD) investigation, a vehicle was traveling southbound on Lawrence Expressway when it veered to the right as it approached Poinciana Drive, colliding with a traffic island and a pole.

The SCPD suspects that alcohol and/or narcotics played a role in the accident.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office received a criminal complaint for driving under the influence with injury and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
