Pedestrian Accident Statistics

Despite years of public awareness campaigns and an increased focus on safety, pedestrian accidents are still on the rise. In fact, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association, pedestrian fatalities reached a 25-year high in 2019. With more cars on the road than ever before and distracted driving becoming increasingly common, it’s no wonder these accidents are becoming more prevalent. But what can be done to prevent them?

There are many steps that pedestrians and drivers can take to help reduce the risk of a pedestrian accident. For pedestrians, it’s important to be aware of your surroundings and cross the street only at designated crosswalks.

Drivers need to be extra cautious when driving in areas where pedestrians are present and should always yield to pedestrians who have the right of way. Additionally, pedestrians and drivers should avoid distractions like cell phones whenever possible.

Taking these precautions can help reduce the number of pedestrian accidents that occur each year. But even with everyone doing their part, accidents might still happen from time to time. You may be entitled to compensation if you’ve been involved in a pedestrian accident that wasn’t your fault.
