Pedestrian Collision Statistics
According to a report from the Governors Highway Safety Association, there were 7,485 pedestrian fatalities in 2021, a record number for the previous 40 years.
Speeding caused 8.6% of pedestrian fatalities in 2020, an increase from 7.2% in 2019. For pedestrian safety, speed is essential. The risk of a pedestrian dying increases with vehicle speed, going from 10% at 23 mph to 90% at 58 mph.
Tragic results are frequently the result of accidents involving pedestrians. In a collision between two vehicles, pedestrians would be unprotected and suffer severe injuries.
On American roads, pedestrian accidents now cause more injuries and fatalities. In the past, car accidents have posed the most significant risk to pedestrians.
Pedestrians are always advised to use the sidewalks, abstain from drinking or using drugs while moving about, and cross parking lots and driveways with caution. They will therefore be less likely to suffer injuries in these collisions.
What Should I Do After an Accident
Once you have gathered the necessary information, file a police report, assuming it is secure. In this way, the police can store information about the accident on a central database, keep those records in a file within the department, and ensure that the data is kept safely in one location.
Generally, the police will arrive at the scene of an accident, but in the unlikely event that they don’t, you can file an accident report by calling your local police or going in person. By doing so, the police can still collect the necessary details even if they are not at the collision scene.
