[02-05-2023] Sacramento County, CA – Pedestrian Killed in South Sacramento Train Accident

Authorities reported that a pedestrian was killed after being hit by a train in Sacramento on Sunday afternoon, February 05, 2023.

According to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, the fatal crash occurred at about 1:39 p.m. in South Sacramento.

Responders arrived at the scene and discovered the pedestrian dead following the collision. There was no information released on the victim’s identity.

The circumstances leading to the crash are still being looked into. It remains unclear whether the train had occupants at the time of the collision.

No further details were immediately available as the investigation by the authorities continued.

Fatal Train Accident Statistics

The number of fatal train accidents increased by 20% in 2016, from 744 to 893. The number of people who had moderate-to-severe injuries increased by 4%, or 5,780 people, between 2020 and 2021. An estimated 3,216 commuters were hurt. These wounds might prove lethal if they are particularly serious. Sixty-six people were killed in the United States at grade crossings involving railroads and highways in 2015.
