A 51-year-old man died after being struck by a car while using a skateboard in Riverside on Saturday night, February 18, 2023.
A collision occurred around 8:30 p.m. close to the intersection of Jones and Arlington avenues.
When Riverside police and firefighters arrived on the scene, they discovered a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze that had struck the skateboarder.
The unnamed pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors later declared him dead.
The outcome of a coroner’s investigation will determine the man’s name and manner of death.
The skateboarder was allegedly traveling westbound on Arlington Avenue when he was hit by the car, according to the police.
A 72-year-old Alta Loma man was operating the car, and according to police, he stayed and cooperated with the investigation.
Police say it’s unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a part in the collision, and the driver wasn’t detained.
