[03-26-2023] One Person Killed, Two Others Injured After Kerman Fiery Multi-Vehicle CrashOne person was killed and two others were injured following a fiery multi-vehicle collision in Kerman, Fresno County, on Sunday night, March 26, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal three-vehicle crash that ejected one of the drivers occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Highway 180 at Sonoma Avenue.

A Chevrolet sedan was reportedly traveling west along the highway when it veered to the left for unknown reasons and sideswiped a Ford Mustang. The Chevy then crashed head-on into a Toyota Camry.

The Chevy’s 47-year-old male driver from Antioch was thrown out onto the road as his vehicle caught fire. He didn’t have his seat belt on. He was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center, where he later passed away.

The drivers of the two vehicles, a 40-year-old man from Mendota and a 44-year-old woman from Bakersfield, were sent to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Updates said they were expected to live.

Two helicopters from CHP and Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies, and officers from Kerman and Mendota Police responded to the crash. It’s unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role.

Following the crash, traffic on Highway 180 heading west was detoured at James Road.
