One person was killed after a vehicle left the road and struck a tree in Nevada County on Sunday afternoon, March 26, 2023.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal DUI single-vehicle crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. on Highway 49 north of McKnight Way in Grass Valley.
A 1996 Subaru Legacy was reportedly traveling southbound when it toppled off the freeway’s westside side, trapping a man and woman in the wreckage. Responding officers were able to extricate the occupants.
The unidentified woman was unconscious and rushed to the hospital, later succumbing to her injuries. A dog also perished during the crash.
The male driver, 26-year-old Brian F. of Grass Valley, sustained major wounds. He is being held in custody while receiving medical attention, as alcohol is believed to have played a role in the collision.
There is currently no other information available regarding the crash, which is still under investigation.
