Pedestrian Crash Statistics
In 2021, there were 7,485 pedestrian fatalities, breaking the previous record of 40 years, according to a study by the Governors Highway Safety Association.
Deaths of pedestrians as a result of speeding rose from 7.2% in 2019 to 8.6% in 2020. Since the likelihood of dying increases with speed, from 10% at 23 mph to 90% at 58 mph, speed significantly impacts pedestrian safety.
Often, a pedestrian hit by a car sustains serious wounds. Injury to pedestrians occurs more frequently in collisions involving cars and pedestrians.
Drivers’ failure to yield to pedestrians or sudden braking is one of the leading causes of pedestrian injuries and fatalities.
Never use drugs or alcohol, always stay on the sidewalk, and cross parking lots and driveways cautiously. As a result, they won’t be as likely to get hurt in these scenarios.
