What to Do After a Pedestrian Accident

It can be hard to think clearly after being hit by a car, especially if you’re hurt. However, what you say and do at the accident scene can significantly impact your subsequent claim against the at-fault party. You could prevent doing something that might reduce the value of your personal injury claim by following these steps:

  • After the collision, call the police and request that an officer creates an accident report.
  • Take pictures of the vehicle that hit you, your injuries, the accident scene, property damage, weather conditions, and road conditions.
  • Photograph the driver’s license, insurance card, and license plate.
  • Obtain eyewitness names and contact details, including anyone who has seen anything.
  • Visit a doctor or a healthcare provider immediately, and make sure they are aware of all the parts of your body that are harmed.
  • Keep a journal where you can record your injuries and recovery process. Describe how you feel, the treatment you receive, and what costs you pay.
  • Before speaking with an experienced attorney, avoid contacting an insurance adjuster or accepting a settlement offer.
  • Avoid using social media. Don’t post about the accident or your accident circumstances.
  • To discuss your case, speak with a skilled pedestrian accident lawyer as soon as possible.
