[06-25-2023] Orange County, CA – Homeless Man Fatally Struck By Vehicle in Garden Grove, Suspected DUI Driver Injured

A homeless man in his 40s was fatally struck by a suspected DUI driver in Garden Grove on Sunday morning, June 25, 2023.

The Garden Grove Police Department reported sending officers to the collision location at Chapman and Nelson Avenues around 1:10 a.m.

Authorities stated that the female driver who hit the pedestrian sustained head and leg injuries when her vehicle collided with a tree. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The unidentified driver was trapped inside her truck and was eventually moved to the south sidewalk on Chapman Avenue, east of Nelson Avenue. Officers arrived on the scene and discovered the body of the dead pedestrian 75 yards east of the collision on the southeast corner of Chapman Avenue and Diane Street.

It is suspected that alcohol or drugs may have played a role in the collision, but confirmation of this will depend on the findings of the Orange County Crime Lab.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
