[08-10-2023] Riverside County, CA – Male Pedestrian Killed Following Car Collision in Good Hope

A male pedestrian was killed after a car collision in Good Hope, Riverside County, on Thursday evening, August 10, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at the intersection of Old Elsinore Road and San Jacinto Avenue at around 7:40 p.m.

It was reported that a sedan ran into a pedestrian on Old Elsinore. However, the cause of the collision could not be determined pending an investigation. The sedan driver remained at the scene and called 911.

Within ten minutes, Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene and pronounced the victim dead.

No information was released regarding the identities of the people involved.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s new study shows that turning crashes are more likely in larger vehicles; large vehicles cause more severe injuries when they strike pedestrians. Compared with passenger cars, pickups had the greatest increase, 269.6 percent, in the odds of being involved in a left-turn crash that killed a pedestrian.

A 172.0 percent increase in odds was associated with minivans and large vans, while a 93.6 percent increase was associated with pickups and SUVs. The odds of a pickup or SUV killing a pedestrian in a right-turn crash were significantly higher than those of a car at 88.6 percent and 63.4 percent, respectively.

Nearly one quarter (24.3 percent) of pedestrian fatalities in 2020 involved a hit-and-run crash. From 2011 to 2020, pedestrian fatalities increased by 46.2 percent, while other traffic deaths only increased by 14.4 percent. From 2019 to 2020, pedestrian fatalities increased by 3.9 percent, despite a 13.2 percent reduction in driving.
