[12-14-2024] 77-Year-Old Cyclist Killed in Collision on Highway 395 Near BishopA 77-year-old cyclist was tragically killed after being struck by a minivan on Highway 395 near Bishop on Saturday evening, December 14, 2024.

California Highway Patrol officers and Big Pine Fire Department personnel responded to the collision, reported at approximately 5:09 p.m. The crash occurred in the highway’s southbound lanes, just south of County Road.

Upon arrival, authorities found a gray 1995 Ford Windstar with moderate front-end damage parked on the right shoulder of the highway. The driver, who remained at the scene, was standing nearby.

The cyclist, identified by the Inyo County Coroner as Keny H., a 77-year-old resident of Big Pine, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic on Highway 395 was diverted via School Street for more than two hours as officers investigated the incident and collected evidence.

CHP stated that neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors in the collision. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol’s Bishop Area Office.
