An 18-year-old from North Highlands was killed, and several others were injured following a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 65 near McGowan Parkway in Olivehurst, Yuba County, on Wednesday afternoon, April 2, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol‘s Yuba-Sutter division, the collision occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. on the southbound side of the highway.
Investigations revealed that the 18-year-old was driving a Toyota Camry and attempting to pass a 22-year-old driving a Honda Accord.
The Honda reportedly made a left turn, causing the Toyota to lose control after a collision with the right rear of the Toyota. The Toyota spun counterclockwise, collided with the McGowan Parkway overcrossing embankment, and overturned multiple times.
Despite life-saving measures from bystanders who cut the driver’s seatbelt to remove him from the vehicle, the 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Honda was not injured. However, a passenger in the Honda sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital. Two passengers in the Toyota were also taken to the hospital with moderate to minor injuries.
The CHP confirmed that DUI was not a factor in the collision.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
