A 73-year-old man was killed after being struck by a vehicle while walking southbound on Highway 1 north of Soquel Avenue in Santa Cruz early Friday morning, April 4, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 5:00 a.m. when a 44-year-old Santa Cruz woman driving a gray 2013 Toyota Camry struck the pedestrian for reasons still under investigation.
The pedestrian sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts by medical personnel.
The CHP stated it is unclear if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
