A motorcyclist was killed and a passenger was seriously injured following a two-vehicle crash in Millville, Shasta County, on Monday afternoon, May 5, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 2:35 p.m. on Whitmore Road near Cow Creek Ranch Road.

Pamela S., 50, of Whitmore, was driving a 2004 black Honda Civic westbound on Whitmore Road at about 55 to 60 mph when she drifted across the broken yellow lines into the eastbound lane. The Honda collided with a 1999 black Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling eastbound at a similar speed.

Authorities said the impact ejected both occupants of the motorcycle onto the south shoulder. The driver of the Harley, a 45-year-old man from Anderson, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 41-year-old female passenger from Palo Cedro was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with major injuries.

Pamela S. was evaluated at the scene, and authorities stated that alcohol, drugs, and phone use do not appear to be factors in the collision.

The crash remains under investigation by the CHP.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics

Motorcyclists are at a significant disadvantage in traffic accidents, as they’re more likely to sustain severe or fatal injuries. According to 2022 data from the National Safety Council, motorcycles made up just 3% of all registered vehicles and accounted for less than 1% of all vehicle miles traveled in the United States. However, riders represented 14.6% of all traffic fatalities and 3.5% of injuries. The disproportionate numbers clearly underscore the heightened risks motorcyclists face on the road compared to drivers.
