A 73-year-old cyclist was killed following a collision with a semi-truck in Eureka on Tuesday morning, May 6, 2025.
According to the Eureka Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of W. Harris and Union streets.
Officers responded to the scene along with members of the Community Safety Engagement Team and Humboldt Bay Fire. Authorities confirmed that the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a semi-truck was traveling northbound on Union Street and had stopped for a red light at W. Harris Street. As the semi-truck made a right-hand turn to travel eastward, a bicyclist traveling westbound along the southern sidewalk of W. Harris Street continued forward, resulting in the collision.
Authorities stated that alcohol or drug impairment does not appear to be a factor. The Eureka Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit, Major/Fatal Injury Team, and the California Highway Patrol are jointly investigating the incident.
